Duties and ResponsibilitiesJob Specific Duties:Performs her duties and tasks as per Policy and Procedure Guidelines, Nursing Code of Conduct and the Standardized Military Hospital By-laws.(GEN-GLD-002)Participates actively in all quality and performance improvement activities within the department / service and within the hospital as per the Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Program.(GEN-QPS-003)Participates actively in all of the education requirements and activities as per the hospital education program.(GEN –SQE-002)Participates actively in Fire and Safety and Disaster management.Adheres to the agreement of the “Promissory to follow the Guidelines” which is signed on arrival at the hospital.Job Specific Duties:PICU staff should be knowledgeable and competent in managing patients with ventilators and critically ill patients.PICU staff should ensure complete thorough physical assessment is done upon admission.Performs procedures accurately, completely and safely in an aseptic way according to the hospital policies and procedures.Supervises junior new staff and participates in orientation and development program.Assists in the formation of nursing care standard / policies and support the head nurse and unit staff in its implementation.Delivers high quality total nursing care to paediatric Intensive Care Patients.Ensures that infection control practices are adhered to in accordance with approved infection control policies (five moments of hand hygiene).Documents and reports all accidents / incidents to the Head Nurse /Charge Nurse and Site Manager.Ensures that all nursing documents are completed accurately and legibly and understands the importance and relevance of their confidential nature.Assists in data collection for monitoring and statistical purposes.Participates in paediatric ward-based in-service program and staff development and training of Nursing Institute Students.Takes responsibility for own professional development and remains updated in current professional practices.Demonstrate effective communication in the working place.Collaborates with interdisciplinary health team members in establishing the plan of care.Assists with the resolution of problems on a shift to shift basis, with appropriate documentation and follow-up reports to the Head Nurse.Demonstrates competency in drug administration to paediatric patients.Demonstrates high standard of clinical knowledge and practices.Undergoes competencies in defined scope of areas and attends refresher course yearly.Willingness to float to other units under her scope of care.Responsible for the medical equipment in the unit (checking of inventories).Providing safe environment to patients and staff.Maintains competency in paediatric CPR.Considers cultural differences and the effects of hospitalization on child and family.Provides health education teaching as appropriate.Participates in the education of child and parents regarding care at home.
