Duties and ResponsibilitiesAnte Natal Ward Renders care to all antenatal patients assigned to her; admits patients and takes responsibilities of patients under her care Attends to Caesarean Sections (CS) in the Operating Room (OR), and the management of the newborn babies post CSDoes vaginal examinations to patients whenever necessary to assess the progress of labourRecognizes emergency situations, takes appropriate action to provide initial stabilization of the mother and foetus, pending arrival of the Physician, e.g. in pre-eclamptic, eclamptic or antepartum haemorrhage patientsPlans and provides teaching to their understanding of pregnancy and childbirth, by using the patient educatorExercises professional behaviour and is responsible for her actions as a Registered MidwifeEnsures that the Cardiotocography machines are functioning and in order during her shiftPerforms uncomplicated unit delivery when Labour ward is full or patient is in precipitate labour, and adhere to the unit guidelines for unit deliveryEnsures that the Observation rooms are properly equipped and the Eclamptic tray is completeAttends and renders care to patients that come for assessment from Emergency Department (ED)Supervises all midwifery care to patients and implements care plan in the absence of Senior MidwifeLabour RoomAttends to patients who comes for admission from Antenatal or Emergency Department (ED) and gives relevant midwifery care and managementPerforms uncomplicated deliveries and adheres to the unit guidelines for unit deliveriesMonitor the progress of the mother in the perinatal period and provides all necessary health education to the mother to ensure optimum progress of both the mother and babyPerforms episiotomies whenever indicated and repairs episiotomies and uncomplicated tears such as fist degree tearPerforms vaginal examination (VE) whenever necessary, to assess progress of labourAssists the doctors with complicated deliveriesAttends to Caesarean sections in OR, and give immediate care of newborn whenever necessaryExercises professional behaviour and is responsible for her actions as a Registered MidwifeRecognizes Emergency situations, takes appropriate actions to provide initial stabilization of the mother and Foetus, pending arrival of Obstetrician e.g. as in Pre-eclamptic, Eclamptic Post Natal WardAttends to patient who comes from Labour ward, Operating Room or AICU post-delivery or post- caesarean section and gives relevant midwifery care and managementRenders care to all postpartum patients and newborn babies in the unit and ensure proper cares are rendered appropriatelyPlans and provides teaching to their understanding of baby care and breast feeding, by using the patient educatorExercises professional behaviour and is responsible for her actions as a Registered MidwifeRecognizes emergency situations, takes appropriate action to provide initial stabilization of the mother or baby, pending arrival of the Physician
